Volunteer with us

There are many simple ways you can help us make a difference. Share our social media, spread the word, volunteer your time, support our work, or become a partner. Every action matters, and together, we can create meaningful change.

Before you travel

Volunteering in Tanzania takes a little planning. Here is what to expect, and how we can help.

  • Getting here

Most volunteers land at Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam. Our office is in Ilala, in the heart of the city, a short drive from the airport. A pre-booked or metered taxi is the simplest way to reach it.

  • Arriving through another gateway

You can also fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) near Arusha, or Zanzibar International Airport (ZNZ). Both have frequent domestic flights to Dar es Salaam, and we can help you plan the connection so you arrive without stress.

  • Where to stay

Dar es Salaam has accommodation for every budget. A simple guesthouse costs roughly 20 to 60 US dollars a night, a comfortable mid-range hotel 80 to 150, and an upscale hotel 200 or more. Rates change with the season, so tell us your dates and we will suggest trusted places near the office.

  • Airport pickup

Share your arrival details before you book, and we will confirm what support we can give, including meeting you at the airport and helping you reach your hotel or our office. Please avoid unmarked taxis.

  • Staying safe

Tanzania is a welcoming country and most visits pass without incident. As in any large city, keep valuables out of sight, avoid walking alone after dark, and check your government's latest travel advice before you fly. We stay in contact with volunteers throughout their stay.

  • Health and vaccinations

No single vaccine is required of every visitor. A yellow fever certificate is required only if you arrive from a country where yellow fever is present. Doctors commonly advise hepatitis A, typhoid, routine vaccines, and malaria prevention. Visit a travel clinic four to six weeks before departure.

  • See more of Tanzania

Many volunteers add a few days of travel. From Dar es Salaam you can reach Zanzibar, Mikumi National Park, Ngorongoro, the Serengeti, and Mount Kilimanjaro. We are glad to point you to trusted operators.
